Riverside Theatre’s Gilbert Street Theatre

Located in the historic Northside Neighborhood, just a few blocks north of downtown Iowa City, the Gilbert Street space is an intimate, 118-seat modified black box theatre. Riverside produces a full season of plays from September – April, before we complete our season with the annual Shakespeare Festival in lower City Park. Our shows include the classics…contemporary and new work… world premieres…musicals…an annual monologue festival…and more. This season’s productions. Past productions.
From September through April, Riverside Theatre presents an indoor season of works at on the north side of downtown Iowa City. The space is an intimate, 118-seat modified black box theatre. Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m. On Sundays, our matinees begin at 2:00 p.m.
Parking is available in a metered lot –free after 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays—located behind the theatre; enter from Market Street. Limited street parking is also available.
A selection of restaurants and cafes are within walking distance of the theatre.
The facility is wheelchair accessible—contact our Box Office for further information or seating requests. Hearing augmentation units, provided by the Old Capital Sertoma Club, are also available.
Riverside Theatre does not cancel or reschedule performances due to inclement weather.
Sales & Exchanges—all sales are final. No refunds are available. However, returned tickets may qualify as a tax deductible donation if returned to the Box Office at least 30 minutes prior to show time. Tickets may be exchanged (for the same production only) by contacting the Box Office at least 24 hours in advance of the performance.
Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival Stage (June-July)
During the months of June and July, the Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival is performed outdoors at the Riverside Theatre Festival Stage in Iowa City’s Lower City Park. This Globe-inspired theatre seats 472 and is set against a bluff and adjacent to a willow-ringed reflecting pond.
The Shakespeare Festival consists of two plays, which run in repertory for four weeks. In 2012, the Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival will run from June 15 - July 8.
On Family Nights, up to two adults accompanying a youth will receive their tickets at the youth price.
A 1 Show Family Pack is also available, which allows 2 adults + up to 3 kids (18 and under) to attend the festival on any night for a set price.
Another option is the Summer Nights Pass, which allows patrons to attend both shows for a set price.
Concession items—sandwiches, wraps, chips, desserts and an assortment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages—are sold at the box office before the show and during intermission.
The grounds open 90 minutes before performance. Come early and enjoy a picnic!

Free parking is available in Lower and Upper City Park.
Weather Policy - The Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival continues during a light rain, so please bring a warp (no umbrellas, please). In case of heavy rain, the show may be delayed up to 45 minutes. If a performance has to be canceled due to severe weather, tickets may be exchanged for another performance of the same production. Refunds are only available if the performance is canceled before the first act is completed. For refunds, mail the tickets to the Riverside Theatre Box Office, 213 N. Gilbert St, Iowa City IA 52245, with a note requesting a refund. All Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival refund claim must be recieved by August 1, 2011. Service charges are non-refundable.
