Summer Theatre Training for Grades 2-12

June 6, 2011 - 11:56 AM

Summer is here and Riverside Theatre, Iowa City’s resident professional theatre, is offering a variety of theatre courses in June and July for students in grades 2-12.

The courses will be taught by professional theatre artists and educators, some of whom are members of this year’s Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival company.

Students in grades 2-5 can take classes in acting and improvisation, while students in grades 5-8 can try their hand at stage combat and advanced improvisation. Students in 8th-12th graders can participate in a two-week intensive theatre course focusing on contemporary and classic scene work, movement, improvisation, and audition technique, with specialty training in voice, classical text and weaponry.

Classes will be held at Riverside Theatre, 213 N. Gilbert St., Iowa City and at Riverside Theatre Festival Stage, in Lower City Park, Iowa City.

Students in grades 2-8 can take one class for $100 or two classes for $175. The two week intensive course for high school students is $315, which includes admission to a Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival performance. For more information and to register, please call the Box Office at 338-7672.
