Thanks for a Great Reading of the Play 8

November 16, 2012 - 12:19 PM

Congratulations to all on a great evening!  The play "8" by Dustin Lance Black about California's Proposition 8 and marriage equality was performed as a staged reading on Thursday, November 15 at Riverside Theatre in collaboration with Working Group Theatre.  Twenty-one local actors and community members performed the roles, and after the show Molly Tafoya of One Iowa & State Representative Vicki Lensing discussed the landscape of marriage equality in Iowa and the nation.  A big thanks to all of the performers, our distinguished speakers, lovely audience members and to Devotay for catering the delicious reception. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales for this event went to American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER).

The play “8” opened as a Broadway world premiere on September 19, 2011, at the sold-out Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York City. The play continues to be performed at theatres around the country.  For more information on upcoming readings, the play, or to give to American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) visit the official site at:
