Riverside Theatre is seeking a Development Director for an October 1st start date. The Development Director is responsible for the fundraising and outreach initiatives of Riverside Theatre, a professional theatre in downtown Iowa City. The position works closely with the Producing Artistic Director and Managing Director to develop and manage the annual fundraising plan and development budget, as part of the annual budgeting process. Primary duties include:

  • Managing donor relationships, including planning and implementing donor asks and acknowledgment of gifts

  • Managing grant writing and reporting

  • Corporate and summer sponsorship asks

  • Serving as representative and advocate with government agencies and community and business groups for funding-related matters

  • Engaging with volunteers, board members, committees, partnering organizations, area businesses, and sponsors

  • Working with Board Outreach Committee on community engagement and planning and execution of fundraising events throughout the year

  • Implementing social media and marketing strategy for developmental activities, donor acknowledgment, and outreach

The ideal candidate has a passion for theatre, is self-motivated and collaborative, is a strong technical writer able to passionately represent the work of the theatre in grant applications and fundraising appeals, and has two+ years of fundraising experience at a not-for-profit theatre or comparable organization.

Riverside Theatre, now in our 39th Season, is one of Iowa’s only professional resident theatres. Located in the heart of Iowa City, a UNESCO City of Literature, Riverside connects artists and audiences through intimate, engaging, and provocative productions from the classics to new works, and provides an artistic home for regional theatre professionals. From September through April we produce six productions at our theatre on Gilbert Street. In June and July, we produce a summer season centered around the classics, including a Free Shakespeare production in Lower City Park.
