"I come to Iowa City hoping to further a spirit of collaboration and experimentation, along with a genuine love for this art form and its possibilities.

Riverside is well on its way to becoming a beacon for vital,  wide-ranging voices, and I'm particularly thrilled to be joining the team at this stage in its history."

After a two year interim period and a nine month search for a permanent Artistic Director, Adam Knight, co-founder and co-Artistic Director of New York City's Slant Theatre Project, has been named Riverside Theatre's next Artistic Director. He will begin October 1, 2018.

In addition to his work at Slant Theatre Project, Knight's directorial work includes a wide range of contemporary, classical, and new plays in small theatres in New York City, regional theatres, and in academic settings. Since 2016, he has been the Executive Director of Red Lab Productions, an international collective dedicated to cultural diplomacy through art and performance. Prior to his work as a theatrical director and producer, he served as a Management Associate with the League of Resident Theaters (LORT), a national organization of 74 professional not-for-profit theatres. In this capacity he worked with the LORT Counsel to administer collective bargaining agreements with Actors' Equity Association, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and United Scenic Artists. Knight has directed more than 25 world premieres Off Off-Broadway, and his work has been praised by The New York Times as "intricate, delightful," "thoroughly transporting".

Sean Lewis, current interim director at Riverside Theatre will be moving back to upstate New York to be closer to his family. Over the past two years, Lewis has continued Riverside Theatre's mission of connecting artists and audiences through intimate, engaging, and provocative productions from classics to new works... and evolved programming, like Free Shakespeare at the Riverside Festival Stage in Summer 2018.

"It is ironic that these two years have been called an 'interim period'" said Board Member and Riverside Theatre search committee chairperson Dazi Wallace. "In fact, Sean's steady hand and this new staff configuration have produced a stunning transformation and a very sound foundation for the years ahead."

Knight was one of 5 finalists, local and national, that interviewed for the position. The search was led by Dazi Wallace and Jennifer Whitmore, Chair of Riverside Theatre's Board of Directors. Knight joins the new leadership team of Managing Director Irena Sarić and Development Director Amanda Lensing.
